Jessica Aber, aged 43 and a former federal United States attorney appointed by Joe Biden, was found dead in her Virginia home on Saturday morning.
She was discovered only two months after resigning from her high-profile role as the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Officials reveal that Aber was found dead within her residence, prompting an immediate investigation by the local law enforcement in Alexandria. As of now, the specific circumstances surrounding her death are closely guarded and undisclosed.
Appointed by President Joe Biden, Aber's impressive legacy boasts rigorous work probing into critical matters of terrorism and national security and prosecuting numerous Russian individuals for transgressions linked to cyber threats and financial subterfuge.
In one of her last acts as an investigator, Aber examined the misconduct of former CIA analyst Asif Rahman, who acknowledged "holding onto and passing on top secret national defense information" to those without clearance before eventually leaking it to the press.
Aber remarked that Rahman "disclosed top-secret American documents in violation of his oath, his responsibility, and the law," stressing that such actions "placed lives at risk, undermined U.S. foreign relations, and compromised our ability to collect vital intelligence in the future."

Aber worked on another case for the Justice Department in late September, including an indictment against a Russian national, Sergey Ivanov, for engaging in "multiple money laundering services that catered to cyber criminals, as well as the seizure of websites associated with three illicit cryptocurrency exchanges," reports Newsweek.
Another Russian national, Timur Shakhmametov, found himself embroiled in the same bank fraud case, facing charges including one count of conspiracy to commit access device fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Aber made it clear with a statement: "Every step cybercriminals take in their pursuit of money leaves another track that leads us to their doorstep. And if you follow them on their path of greed, they will lead us to you. We will not stop because while domains can always be seized, justice is unyielding."
In the latter part of 2023, Aber was instrumental in bringing charges against four individuals connected to Russia for the torture, inhumane treatment, and unlawful imprisonment of an American citizen in Ukraine amid Russia's incursion in February 2022.
Reacting to the sad news, Attorney General Pam Bondi expressed: "The loss of Jessica Aber, former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, is deeply tragic. Our hearts and prayers go out to her family and friends during this profoundly difficult time."
