Darrell Currie has opened up about his ongoing struggle with a mysterious illness that has left him in chronic pain while presenting for TNT Sports.

The 42-year-old revealed that prescribed medication has done little to alleviate the symptoms of his condition, which he described as causing "explosions" in his head. Currie, who has been a TV host for over a decade and was part of the BT Sport team before the 2023 TNT Sports rebrand, is well-known for his coverage of Scottish football and hosting duties for European club competitions.

He first spoke about his health issues in the summer of 2024, describing the sensation as if "It felt like a bomb went off in my brain. Like something exploded in my head".

Since then, Currie has been under medical treatment for his unidentified condition, which has caused him severe discomfort.

He told The Times that his problems started in 2022 while covering an international football match between Scotland and Ireland, and things have only worsened since.

The Glaswegian presenter also expressed his frustration with the medical process, as he said: "Sometimes I felt like a bit of a guinea pig. [Doctors] were just throwing things at me.

"Some would prescribe things without naming the meds, then you start reading about them and think, 'wait a minute, why am I taking this?'"

After testing positive for the bacteria responsible for Lyme disease, Currie was put on antibiotics. However, he now suspects Long Covid could be the root cause of his health issues and has turned to alternative medicine for help.

"I was getting crushing head pains again and terrible dizziness," he said. "Just standing up was a struggle. By the new year, the small progress that I had made up to then vanished and every day felt like a marathon. I just felt that like this amount of drugs was going to kill me. I felt like I was dying, honestly."

In a candid update on social media, Currie expressed his determination to get better and how he is switching to other methods to do so.

In the post, he said: "Main thing to say is – never give up. After an exhausting search for answers I'm now leaning on alternative + naturopathic medicine. Every day is still tough for me, but conventional treatments were not helping. My body needed a break from prescribed meds.

"The reason I've spoken now is to help other people who are on a medical merry-go-round and struggling to get answers. I've learned a lot and if I can share any of that, or help in any way, please get in touch and I'll try to get back to as many people as I can in the coming weeks. There's always hope."

Following his heartfelt confession, Currie was met with a wave of support from social media users.

One user said: "Top man Darrell, keep fighting," while another praised his resilience, adding: "You are an inspiration to so many for the way you keep fighting so hard for yourself and your family."
